Sam Matthews

Deputy Chief Executive, Charities Education Services

Ms Matthews is Deputy Chief Executive, and previously Director of Services, at Charities Education Services (CES). CES was established in 1990 with support from the Home Office, charitable trusts and corporate funders to help strengthen the voluntary sector. CES does this through helping members of voluntary and community organisations develop their own approaches to enhancing the quality of their services; establishing self-evaluation and quality systems; and improving the management of their organisations. Grant funding and donations are used to offer free or below-cost support to very small (sometimes unstaffed) charities and other community organisations and subsidised services to small- and medium-sized charities. Ms Matthews is also the lead author of PQASSO, CES’ lead quality standards used by over 14 000 charities and community organisations.
