Padma Jyoti has managed the companies of the Jyoti Group in Nepal for the last 45 years. These companies are in manufacturing industry, trading, hydropower and insurance.
During the height of the violent insurgency in Nepal he helped establish National Business Initiative (NBI) ten years ago and is serving as its President. NBI is an initiative by the major business Federations, Chambers and Organisations of Nepal to work in the field of conflict resolution and peace building through socially responsible and conflict sensitive business. NBI strives to enhance the image of private sector business and to play an active role in creating a sustainable peace in the country through economic growth, which is also inclusive and just.
He was nominated a Member of the first Constituent Assembly and Legislature Parliament of Nepal (2009-2013). He has also served as President of SAARC Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FNCCI).
He is also a Vice President of World Fellowship of Buddhists, the international organisation of 150 member centres in 40 countries with headquarters in Bangkok Thailand. He has been working for the development of Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha in Nepal for many years.
He has degrees in Engineering and Management from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur India and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA.
