Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship
Mirjam Schöning has been heading the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship from January 2008 to September 2012 and was a member of the senior leadership team at the World Economic Forum. She joined the Schwab Foundation at its very beginning in August 2000 as the first employee and has since been shaping the strategy and activities of the Foundation. As part of the Schwab Foundation’s “Social Entrepreneur of the Year” selection process, Mirjam has screened more than 2000 models of social enterprises spanning education, health, environment and enterprise development with a particular focus on Europe, Latin America, South Asia and USA.
Mirjam serves on the board of various social enterprises and support organizations, including Dialogue Social Enterprises, Thomson Reuters Trust Law Foundation and the Duke University’s CASE Impact Investing Initiative.
Mirjam holds an MBA from the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland, and studied international business at ESADE, Spain and the Stockholm School of Economics, Sweden. She graduated with a Master in Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. Previously, she was a consultant at Bain & Company. She analyzed the social sector lending strategies in Latin America for the World Bank, and worked on a regional centralization strategy for Shell in Scandinavia.
