Dr Sultan Hafeez Rahman
Executive Director, BIGD, BRAC University
Dr. Sultan Hafeez Rahman has served as the Executive Director of the BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD), BRAC University since June 2013. Dr. Rahman is leading the restructuring of BIGD and is actively involved in research and academic matters (especially on governance and public policy) at the institute.
Dr. Rahman started his professional career at the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) in 1975 and joined the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in September, 1992. Dr. Rahman led, from 2010 to 2012, ADB’s largest department (South Asia), which accounted for nearly 40% of ADB’s total assistance.
Dr. Rahman currently supervises BIGD’s annual flagship research publications SoG (The State of Governance in Bangladesh) and SoC (State of Cities). His research interests are in the areas of economic growth and inequality, macroeconomic policy, aid effectiveness, governance, decentralization, regional integration and sustainable development.
Dr. Rahman obtained his Ph.D. and M.A degrees from Stanford University and Vanderbilt University. He was also educated at University of Dhaka, Chittagong College and Faujdarhat Cadet College in Bangladesh.
