Carter Coleman

Founder and CEO, Agrica Limited

Carter Coleman is the founder and CEO of Agrica Limited and the chairman of its Tanzania subsidiary, Kilombero Plantations Limited, a greenfield project that has become East Africa’s largest rice producer since breaking ground in late 2008. Living in Tanzania between 1987 and 1996, he started the Tanzania Forest Conservation Group (TFCG), a widely respected community development organisation. Pioneering participatory forest management in Tanzania, the TFCG now works in over 160 villages, has planted 15 million trees, trained 10,000 villagers in agro-forestry and protects some 1200 km 2 of high-biodiversity rainforest. Carter is a former journalist who reported for Time and the Financial Times in Africa and is the author of two books.
